Mechanical gremlins force Dennis out of feature race
Sunday March 11, 2007. TSS Motorsport

The final round of the QLD HDS Modified Production Series wound up at Charlton Raceway Saturday Night (March 10), and Dennis Bullpitt was on hand at his local race track to put his TSS Falcon through its paces.

Dennis had a brilliant start to his first heat, starting from 4th on the grid.  Bullpitt drove into the lead past Jason Campbell, only to fall into the clutches of the tricky Charlton surface and run wide allowing two cars go by.  Dennis steered his car to 3rd place by the fall of the checkered flag.

Dennis would start from position six in heat two, as he began to move forward into 4th place.  Dennis now had current NSW champion Michael Hally in his sights.  The two cars dueled for the entire race which saw a desperate move by Dennis on the final lap up the main straight on the outside, but fell short by half a car length.

The car started to overheat slightly in the first two heats.  With thanks to Steve Brazier the team were able to make up some extra ducting to give more air flow to the radiator.  (Thanks Trappy for the tin!)

Dennis started from position six in heat three, and once again managed to move forward and wound up in 4th place.  The engine ran a lot cooler this time round.

With some solid heat placings Bullpitt qualified the Falcon in 12th position in the final, up against 30 of the best cars in Queensland.  As the race got underway Dennis made up a few quick spots and was running with Darryl Etherden.  Etherden got slightly out of shape and unfortunately Dennis collected Etherden and spinning him around.  Dennis was put to the rear of the field for the incident.

Not one to give up or lie down, Dennis started on his challenge from the rear.  Dennis had advanced four or five spots when there was a stoppage, as Dennis slowed the engine died and cut out, which saw him roll onto the infield and take no further part in the event.  Later discovering the starter motor seems to have locked in and stopped the engine from turning over.  Hopefully the car will be an easy fix as Dennis will be back for another crack at the Charlton venue in Easter for the Modified Production Grand Prix, which should see another great field with some good prize money on offer.

TSS Motorsport congratulates Robert Trapp on a fantastic drive in the feature race to take the win.  Trapp was challenged late in the race by Mark Ferguson but kept his cool and steered his way to victory, well done Trappy.
